Yes, I know what you’re thinking…

C’mon Christa, this is a food blog, we don’t want to hear you waxing poetic about a bowl of oatmeal. Pizza? Definitely. Tacos? Oh yeah. But this is oatmeal, how life-changing could it actually be? No amount of slivered almonds, no amount of fruit — whether artfully arranged or otherwise — could change that, right? Riiiiight?

I’m just going to say it, this is the best oatmeal I’ve ever tried — so much so that I order it every single time I drop by Seven Mile Cafe in downtown Keller.

I don’t know what kind of voodoo magic these chefs are performing, but they’ve taken a food I used to loathe unless it was in cookie form and made it into something utterly crave-worthy. The oats are steeped in almond milk, have appealing, creamy, non-mushy texture and are so satisfying with a menagerie of fresh fruit. It’s the kind of stick-to-your-ribs breakfast that keeps you satisfied for hours.

Need further proof that you’re not being Punk’d (oh that’s an oldie but goodie right there)? My husband, who normally orders two eggs, bacon, sausage, hashbrowns and toast, absolutely loves it. I don’t think he believed how good it was either until he tried it, so if you’re in the area, lemme know what you think. It may make an oatmeal convert out of you yet.

If you’re a coffee person, the “Nola” cold brew with oat milk is absolutely genius, too. Goes great with the oatmeal or fantastic all by itself.
